Crisis started life as Mid Life Crisis approximately 5 years ago.
After discussions around various dinner tables and the snooker tables of Marlpit Hill the band was born when 5 friends realised that between them they had the potential musicians to form a band. So after 20 years of not playing Paul arranged a first rehearsal after famously calling Neil to proclaim he had been out at lunch-time and bought a drum kit.
The Original line up was Rob Peters - Vocals, Paul Allan - Drums, Nigel Gray - Guitar, Neil Tyson - Guitar, and Ricky Martin - Bass. The first tentative steps were taken in Paul’s conservatory (how rock and roll).
Crisis are grateful to those friends who have loyally supported the band (particularly Lesley Powell) and those that gave the band some of their first gigs - The Keens.
Early gigs also included supporting another local band - the Bus Stop Boys in aid of Romania Link and the Bridges Centre.
The band also performed at a number of fundraising events including Crockham Hill School PTA and also an event they organised personally to raise funds for Edenbridge Memorial Hospital.
The band’s first pub gig was at the Swan Pub Marlpit Hill where they have been a regular feature.
In 2005 the band extended their venue list to include The Kentish Horse and The Crown where they have become a regular fixture including playing outside in the courtyard during the summer months.
2005 also saw the band record their first tracks on CD.
2005 also marked the departure of founder member Paul Allan following his decision to emigrate to Australia. The band have many fond memories of Paul’s time with the band and some would say that Crisis would not have existed without him.
Following Paul’s departure the rest of the guys were delighted to find another local drummer in Richard Witt and the band were set to go from strength to strength.
During 2006 the band have extended their list of venues and their set list. First ventures into Tunbridge Wells have had mixed success with gigs at the Prince of Wales, The Kelsey Arms and the Toad Rock Retreat.
The band have also performed at the Moorhouse School Fete and Godstone Club as well as what should surely become an annual summer festival in the Theakes’ field.
We will be back at The Crown for more gigs throughout the Summer and also hope to do return gigs at The Victoria Club Lingfield and the Wheatsheaf Pub Crowborough
In 2007 the band have also arranged a special trade discount deal with Rotosound strings who are based in Sevenoaks
